Goalkeeper Jiří Pavlenka is leaving SK Slavia and heading to the German Bundesliga, where he will strengthen the famous Werder Bremen. On the last day of June he underwent a medical exam with his new club and signed a three-year contract with an annual option. Werder will thus feature two more players from Sport Invest: goalkeeper Jaroslav Drobný and defender Theodore Gebre Selassie.
"We are happy that the transfer has been successful and Jiří can start training with Bremen right from the beginning," said player agent Viktor Kolář of Sport Invest. "The club is really looking forward to him, which is proven by the fact that they did everything they could to finalize the deal. The club has created a fantastic environment and background for him to become number one from the start of the new season. The presence of Jaroslav Drobný will certainly help him. Jiří is not afraid of this challenge; on the contrary, he is determined to work, to move his career forward. He's ready. I firmly believe he will enjoy it and will be successful."
"Werder is one of the most traditional clubs in Germany," said Jiří Pavlenka, a 25-year-old goalkeeper who recently completed his first season as a member of the Czech national team, where he also played in a preliminary match against Belgium. "I've always dreamed of playing in the Bundesliga, which is one of the best leagues in the world, and I believe the team has great potential. Of course I know it will not be easy. Werder has some very good goalkeepers, but I believe in myself. Jaroslav Drobný is a very experienced goalkeeper, which is great for me because I can learn a lot from him. And I will try to be of some help too."
