Martin Hanzal became a free agent overseas on 1 July 2017 and emerged with a great contract, signing a three-year deal with the ambitious Dallas Stars for a total of $14.25 million to play alongside stars Tyler Seguin and Jemie Benno and seek the Stanley Cup.

"Several teams were interested in Martin and in the end the choice came down to Dallas or San Jose," said Robert Spálenka, the player's manager at Sport Invest. "We preferred Dallas, which is a great choice for Martin because he fits in with their top six players, reinforces the offensive line and helps on face-offs. He played less in Minnesota, but now he should have an important role on the team. Again it shows how strong our associates, Don Meehan, and Craig Oster from Newport Sports, have been in the free agent market. They helped us a lot. Martin got a great contract for three years in which we managed to combine everything that we wanted. The result is great, we are very happy."

"I'm very happy with the length and size of the contract," said Martin Hanzal. "Dallas has great ambition; I will have a chance to play in the playoffs and for the Stanley Cup. With Dallas I got the feeling that they were interested in me; manager and coach Ken Hitchcock knows me and really wanted me. I have to get used to the new team and system as soon as possible, but I've already talked with the coach and he's counting on me playing on the first two lines. He'll want to use me in front of the net and on the power play and penalty kills. I'll be playing next to Benn, Seguin and Spezza, which is great. I'm really happy. I've never been a free agent before and it only lasted a few minutes! I'm so excited that there was so much interest in me. From a health point of view, I feel great; nothing hurts, which is great for my physically demanding playing style. I can't wait for the new season to begin!"

We wish Martin good luck and believe he will be able to build on his great play in Arizona, where he scored more than 100 goals in his ten seasons as a defenceman and forward and maintained an average of over half a point per game.
